Overview
National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand is among the top National Institute of Technologies present in the country. Popularly known as NITUK, the institute received approval for the establishment in 2009 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the Parliament Act. NIT Uttarakhand currently offers B.Tech and M.tech programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Civil Engineering. NITUK also provides PhD programmes in various streams of Science, Humanities and Engineering. NIT Uttarakhand started it’s the first academic session in the year 2010-11.
NIT Uttarakhand's temporary campus is located at Government Polytechnic, in the Pauri Garhwal district of Srinagar. It is connected to National Highway 58 which links Srinagar Garhwal to Badrinath. Rishikesh railway station is the nearest railway station and Jolly Grant Airport Haridwar is the nearest airport from NITUK. The NIT Uttarakhand campus consists of the Science and Humanities department, Library, Classrooms, Server Room, Dispensary, Playground, Hostels and Auditorium. The NITUK temporary campus presently includes one cricket ground and three new buildings. Provisions have been made to construct new departmental libraries with advanced facilities. The NITUK campus is built over an area of 14,000 sq. metres (approximately 1,50,000 sq. feet).
B. Tech students at NIT Uttarakhand are selected through JEE Main and Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) while the M.Tech students are selected via CCMT process. A lot of emphases is given to extracurricular activities in NIT Uttarakhand for the all-round development of the students. NITUK is home to several extracurricular activities and popular clubs such as Verbatim - The Speaker’s Club, Klick - The Photography Club, Movie Club, Rocktave - The Music Club and many more. “Techno Savvy” is the name of the monthly newsletter published by NIT Uttarakhand which acts as a perfect breeding ground for creativity and writing skills. The Wall Magazine of the institute goes by the name of “Think Tank”. Highly qualified trainers and coaches are made available to the students of NIT Uttarakhand to train them in games like Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball etc.
NIT Uttarakhand has taken giant steps towards revolutionising education by introducing new academic programmes, development of infrastructure and laboratories and introducing revision modules for the available academic curriculum. With the introduction of credit-based undergraduate programmes, NITUK students can now choose from a large number of electives offered by the Institute.
