Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Garhwal (HNBGU) was established in 1973 under the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act (Act No. 10 of 1973). This University has been upgraded to the position of a Central University under the Central Universities Act 2009. It is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is accredited with grade ‘A’ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

HNBGU has its headquarters in Srinagar (Garhwal) along with three other campuses namely Chauras, Pauri and Tehri. The University offers UG, PG and doctoral-level courses across domains like Medicine & Health Sciences, Science, Business & Management Studies, IT & Software, Teaching & Education, Engineering, Accounting, Mass Communication & Media, Arts (Fine/Visual/Performing), among others.
